The University of Belgrade Faculty of Law has among its
faculty some of the most eminent experts in various legal disciplines, as well
as in a range of other social sciences (economy, sociology, philosophy,
political science, legal history, etc.) Amongst them, there have been 19 members
of the Academies of Sciences, 15 rectors of the University of Belgrade, six
judges of the Constitutional Court of Serbia, a large number of names recognized
within the domestic and international academic community, as well as several
dozens of high government officials – Prime Ministers, Deputy Prime Ministers
and Ministers, Ambassadors, etc.
The Faculty's over 100 professors and teaching and research assistants are
organised in eight departments, gathering related subjects: the Department of
Civil Law, the Department of Public Law, the Department of Criminal Law, the
Department of International Law and International Relations, the Department of
Economics, the Department of Legal History, the Department of Theory, Sociology
and Philosophy of Law, the Section for Foreign Languages.*
The faculty is faced with an enormous workload in order to meet the teaching
needs of such a large institution. The average number of lectures given at the
Faculty per year is approximately 11,000, the number of midterms is in excess of
18,000, and nearly 66,000 exams are administered every year. In addition to the
permanent faculty members, several professors from other faculties and adjuncts
from legal practice are engaged in the teaching process.
Educational activities at the Faculty are supported by 75 members of the
administrative staff, organized in three offices: General Affairs, Academic and
Student Affairs and Finance.
During the 2005/2006 academic year, 67 professors worked at
the Faculty of Law (31 full professor, 17 associate professors, 15 assistant
professors, 4 lecturers) and 37 assistants (17 teaching and research assistants,
20 junior assistants).
