Further Reform and Development

Proud of its long and outstanding tradition, the Faculty nevertheless demonstrates a willingness to change and keep pace with the times.

In order to develop new study programmes, the Faculty places special emphasis on cooperation with faculties abroad. Besides cooperation with the European University Centre at the Nancy 2 University (France), with which the Faculty has for many years jointly organized post-graduate specialist studies in EU Law, the implementation of new joint projects is under way. A three-year Tempus project, awarded in 2005 as part of an effort to facilitate the implementation of the new curriculum of the post-graduate – master programme Post-graduate Studies for European Integration – POGESTEI, the Faculty is implementing in conjunction with the law faculties - of the universities in Maribor, Salzburg, Trieste, Frankfurt (Viadrina), Como (Insubria), Nis and Novi Sad. The Faculty endeavours to establish more joint degree programmes with other prestigious law faculties from abroad, as well as other forms of international cooperation in performing study programmes.

The Faculty also plays an active role in the regional cooperation between law faculties relating to educational reform, due to which it had hosted the international seminar The Implications of the Bologna Process to Higher Education Development in South-Eastern Europe – Experiences and Dilemmas in April 2005. It has also initiated numerous statutory provisions during the process of adoption of the new Law on Higher Education of the Republic of Serbia, and is actively involved in the promotion of the Bologna process.

As to the reform of studies, the Faculty places special emphasis on the practical training of students by introducing a number of practical skill-oriented courses, simulated courtroom proceedings etc. In addition to its efforts to improve the quality of studies, to implement the European standards and to enable mobility within the academic framework, the Faculty intends also to engage itself in finding employment for its graduates. To this end it has recently established a Career Centre, which shall facilitate direct contact with and recommendations to the institutions and companies interested in hiring young lawyers.
